Lifelong learning in the information and knowledge society is characterized by learning with and by digital media. This requires the continuous availability of the digital media. Therefore strategic concepts between central control and decentralized responsibility for IT management have to be developed and implemented. In projects at regional and national level we support decision-makers from educational organizations with the planning, implementation and evaluation of concepts for their use of digital media and investigate new organization and process models. The connections between technical possibilities and related organizational development are in the focus of our research and consulting work.

These are the challenges and focal points of our work:

• Developing strategies for the infrastructure planning with school districts (media development planning);
• Consulting school districts and universities on the development of process-oriented IT service management according to the quasi-standard IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL);
• Defining Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) and benchmarking;
• Designing and testing of IT-supported internal and external evaluation;
• Consulting and training of school principals, school boards, and districts.
