In schools, many different information systems are used. Administration information systems represent the complete sector of basic data from addresses, timetables and room reservation to accounting and financial planning. Learning management systems (LMS) or learning content management systems (LCMS) serve for the direct support of learning and teaching. They are often called e-learning platforms. Completely independent of these up to now are learning performance information systems which make available data on student performance derived from standardized comparative tests, internal parallel work or student portfolios.
Besides comprehensive databases for collecting and evaluating the performance data at the state ministries of education, several regions or municipalities already established database systems for the control data of schools (teacher and student data, socio-demographic data, subject selection, curricula, absences, etc.). Further there are central or decentral information systems supporting teachers with making available teaching materials corresponding to the standards adopted. This multitude of data in different database systems cannot be managed ad hoc. Therefore, interoperable systems are required, which are called data warehouses in the business sector.
The aim of the ISMIS project is to analyze the requirements and to specify an integrated school management information system in the form of a school data sheet. To reach this aim, first the information systems existing in Germany and their performance will be surveyed. Then, an information system prototype for the (self) evaluation of schools will be planned and implemented.
