Online Map and Monitoring Report
In cooperation with the Open Knowledge Foundation, Berlin, and with funds provided by the Federal Agency for Civic Education (bpb), ifib is currently working on the establishment of an Open Data Monitor.
With the aid of a map and a searchable database, journalists, scientists, and students are meant to be enabled to quickly and easily find out, which cities, communities and counties offer open, that is machine-readable data on which topics on their websites for downloading and processing. This database should include all cities, communities and counties and supplement what the national government is offering on govdata.de. On that basis, an annual report of the development status of Open Data in Germany will be published.
A central aim of the project is to find and to test a feasible way to achieve this goal. Therefore, different ways of collecting and accessing the communal data are tried and compared (Scraper, Crawler, data catalogues via APIs, etc.). The quality inspection and allocation of topic areas will be completed manually.
A prototype can be accessed on www.open-data-map-de.
