PosyMus
Potentials of feedback systems for music lessons
Our project ‘PosyMus’ is a cooperation with the Institute for Music Education Research of the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media, in which we concentrate on the potentials of feedback systems for music lessons.
We develop computer-based assessments for measuring competences in the field of music by reprocessing the results of former research projects, considering aspects of accessibility, usability and mobility. The assessments are conducted in so-called „tablet classes“, in which tablet computers have already been established as a learning tool.
In order to make the results available to educators, we cooperate with teachers to create an electronic feedback system which fulfils the multimedia-related requirements of teaching music. Using a mixed methods approach, the conditions regarding technological equipment and personnel are described, focussing specifically on the use of the electronic feedback system for supporting students’ individual learning progress. At the same time, we attempt to explore the potential of using digital media and ‘Lernstandserhebungen’ (national learning progress assessments) for the development of music lessons. We also try to refine ways of designing multimedia tests for music competences which could be used for large-scale assessments and could also be transferred to other fields.
The project is funded by the program for supporting research projects in connection to large-scale assessments by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).
